Prime Minister Offers Special Plane to Bring Pervez Musharraf's Ailing Mother to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervez Rasheed on Friday said the independent judiciary would decide about the fate of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

“[However], the Prime Minister of Pakistan on sympathetic grounds, is ready to send special plane or an air ambulance to bring his mother back home so as to continue her medical treatment in Pakistan and she could be with her son,” the Government's Spokesman said in a statement issued by the PM's Office.

The Spokesman said the Government of Pakistan would provide all facilities for the treatment of the mother of General (retd) Musharraf.

Former president of Pakistan Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf is facing a number of high-profile cases in the superior courts and has obtained bail in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case, Benazi Bhutto assassination case and the Lal Masjid cleric killing case.

He is also facing a treason trial under Article 6 of the constitutions over the imposition of emergency and sacking of judges in November 2007.

The former military dictator's name was added to the Exit Control List in April this year after the apex court bench hearing the treason case issued directives to the Secretary Interior.

Musharraf's lawyers have moved a petition in the Sindh High Court to remove his client's name from the ECL pleading that trial courts had confirmed Musharraf’s bail in all cases against him.

The plea had said that Musharraf wanted to leave for Dubai to enquire on the health of his 95-year-old mother, who is seriously ill and unable to travel to Pakistan. It had further said that it was Musharraf’s desire to be with his mother after he had been released on bail in all cases against him.

The SHC on December 23 disposed off the former military strongman's application seeking removal of his name from the ECL and advised him to contact the federal government over the matter.
