لاہور ہائی کورٹ کے جسٹس شاہد جمیل نے علامہ اقبال کے آزادی اور غلامی پر لکھے گئے چار اشعارلکھ کر استعفیٰ دے دیا۔ جسٹس شاہد جمیل نے اپنے استعفے میں علامہ اقبال کے درج ذیل اشعار لکھیے۔

آزاد کی اک آن ہے محکوم کا اک سال
کس درجہ گراں سَیر ہیں محکوم کے اوقات!

آزاد کا اندیشہ حقیقت سے منوّر
محکوم کا اندیشہ گرفتارِ خُرافات

محکوم کو پِیروں کی کرامات کا سودا
ہے بندۂ آزاد خود اک زندہ کرامات

اقبال یہاں نام نہ لے علمِ خودی کا
