I am in contact with former Deputy Superintendent Adiala Jail, Muhammad Akram’s family. He has not been arrested so no idea what Pak controlled media is reporting re his ‘arrest’. He was forcibly disappeared from Officers Colony (official residence @ Adiala) at 5 AM on 14th August in front of his wife and children. The abductors had their faces covered and took him in a double cabin vigo. He requested them to allow him to meet the Superintendent Adiala Jail, however, his request was turned down. Abductors identified themselves as belonging to “Mehekma”.

Local police station (Saddar Bairooni) not only refused registration of an FIR but was also refusing to receive a copy of her application. After the wife had approached local PS for lodging FIR, there was an unauthorized raid at their home last night at around 10 PM. Mrs. Akram and the children were alone at home and are deeply traumatized by both the abduction and the subsequent raid. Those conducting the abduction and the raid were apparently primarily concerned with Akram’s devices.

To those claiming he has been arrested, kindly note that an arrest denotes there are some charges or an FIR against him and that he will be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction within 24 hours. At present, Muhammad Akram is forcibly disappeared. His family members do not have any information on his fate/whereabouts.

We have filed a habeas corpus petition in this regard before the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench today and the same was heard by LHC Rawalpindi Bench today, wherein SHO PS Saddar Bairooni has been directed to produce Muhammad Akram on Tuesday, 20 August 2024.
